Probus has taken on a whole school approach for PSHE called Jigsaw throughout years R -6.
Jigsaw aims to help children know and value who they are and how they relate to other people. It teaches children to become aware of their thoughts and feelings throughout the programme, relating this to the PSHE subject matter being studied.
Jigsaw consists of six puzzles (half-term units of work) containing six pieces (lessons). Each Piece has two learning intentions. One is based on specific PSHE learning; and the other is based on emotional literacy and social skills. This means that Jigsaw is relevant to children living in today’s world as it helps them understand and be equipped to cope with modern issues such as body image, bullying, and internet safety. Below are the topics that will be covered each half term.

Summer 2: Changing Me
Jigsaw raises self-awareness, group awareness, collaboration skills, teamwork experience, respectfulness, etc., preparing children for the wider world and their position in it.
Jigsaw PSHE is fully compliant with the DfE Statutory Relationships and Health Education Guidance. This includes ALL the statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education and includes the non-statutory aspect of Sex Education (Where do babies come from?). Jigsaw ensures all children are given this human reproduction information in an age and stage appropriate way. You will be informed when your children will be learning about these aspects of the curriculum so you can support them at home if necessary.
At Probus School, we recognise the need to equip children to understand what healthy and positive relationships are and how to keep themselves safe. Therefore, Relationship Education is not only about intimate relationships, it also includes learning about families and friendships, kindness and acceptance of others who are different from ourselves, how we treat and look after ourselves and the importance of community.
SRE and Health Education is a statutory requirement for schools to teach.
